The effect:
Older generation vehicles are often immobilised for longer periods after the summer season. Moisture from the air or separated water from the fuel actively promotes corrosion in the fuel tank, in fuel supply lines and inside the engine. Aged fuel can cause deposits to form, fuel flow to be reduced and injection performance to deteriorate. As a result, clogged nozzles, intake ports and valves impair engine operation, increase pollutant emissions and fuel consumption. The introduction of low-sulphur fuels also reduces the lubricating effect on the injection and fuel system. The result is increased wear.
